PRUEX implemented a proactive hygiene programme on poultry farms to reduce bacterial disease challenges. By replacing harmful bacteria with beneficial ones, the solution improves animal welfare, performance, and reduces antibiotic dependency.
PRUEX partnered with poultry farmers to address persistent bacterial disease issues commonly treated with antibiotics. Traditional farming practices often resulted in poor water hygiene, compromised bedding, and high infection risks. Recognising this, PRUEX introduced a holistic approach to environmental management that focused on “The 5 Key Areas” – water, litter, air, surfaces, and skin.
The project began by identifying and eliminating areas where pathogenic bacteria thrived, using a natural, non-antibiotic probiotic solution. PRUEX’s method replaced harmful microbes with beneficial bacteria, breaking the chain of infection and significantly reducing the need for antibiotics. The programme was complemented by education, training, and ongoing farm-specific support to ensure long-term adoption and effectiveness.
The outcome was a measurable improvement in poultry health, welfare, and productivity. PRUEX’s approach not only proved economically beneficial to farmers but also aligned with growing consumer and legislative demands for reduced antibiotic use in agriculture.
This successful implementation earned PRUEX commendation from the Guardian Antibiotic Guardian Awards, further establishing its reputation for innovation and impact in the farming sector.
